The Liberation of Auschwitz

Saturday, February 4, 2023

Due to forecast weather and road conditions, this program is rescheduled to February 4.

Campbell County Public Library is pleased to welcome historian John Egan for a presentation that will focus on the Auschwitz extermination camp through a series of rare photographs—the only ones which somehow were allowed to be taken. In addition, Auschwitz will be placed within a context of the larger Holocaust and the forces which led to it.

Describing this presentation, Egan says “remembrance is the most powerful counter to the hatred that spawned the Holocaust. Six million is more than a number. It is six million individual lives, families, communities. Thus, there will also be a retelling of the life stories of some of those who perished.”

John Egan is a semi-retired historian who has taught at Sheridan College and the University of Kansas, focusing on Holocaust history and the history of 20th century genocides.

The program is free and open to the public. The materials are not appropriate for young children. Appropriate for high school students and up; maybe for advanced middle school students.
