What are the hours at the North Landfill? What about the South Landfill and CARE facility?: North Landfill hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Note that we will not accept commercial loads after 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Landfill and CARE facility hours will be Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. South Landfill will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

1. Where is the North Landfill?: The North Landfill is located about 11 miles north of Gillette on Highway 59 the the Basin Electric Dry Fork Station Power Plant. From the intersection of Skyline Drive (Highway 50) and 2nd Street (near Tower's West Lodge and the Shell Station), go north about 7 miles to the junction of Highway 59 and 14-16 West (past Eagle Butte Mine and near the Rawhide School, turn right, and go another 4 miles to North Landfill Road on the left. Watch for signs.

2. What forms of payment does the landfill take?: You can pay for your garbage several ways, including a personal check, credit card or cash.

3. What are the hours at the North Landfill? The process is simple for residential customers receiving a fee-waived dump:

Secure and tarp your load before leaving home.
Drive north on Highway 14-16. Four (4) miles north of the airport turn right onto Highway 59. Continue for 3.7 miles, turn left onto North Landfill Road. Pull up to the scale house, stay in your lane, pull on the scale slowing and interact with the scale house attendant.

5. Does the landfill take yard waste?: The landfill does accept yard waste for a fee. However, you can dump your yard waste for free at the City of Gillette Waste Water Plant on Garner Lake Road. For more information call 307-686-5274.

6. What items are not covered under the “free dump” policy?: Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, shingles, tires and yard waste.

7. How do I get information on recycling?: Access our resource on recycling.

8. Do you accept non-friable asbestos?: Yes, after weighing at the transfer station it must be taken to the construction and demolition pit north of town.

9. Do you accept friable asbestos?: Yes, it must be triple bagged in six millimeter plastic and placed in a Department of Environmental Quality approved container. All loads must weigh in at the transfer station before heading to the construction and demolition pit north of town. The fee is $75 per ton.

10. Do you accept petroleum contaminated soils (PCS)?: The landfill is not currently taking PCS.

11. What can I do with my household chemicals (paint, cleaners, insecticides, etc.)?: The Campbell County Landfill accepts Household Hazardous Waste free of charge for residential customers. However, we do not accept liquid latex paint. It must be completely dried out and then it can be thrown into the garbage.
